Orthodontics Northeast Philadelphia Dentist

It’s a big city out there, and your oral health is our priority. Dr. Karagodsky is dedicated to creating that healthy and aesthetically pleasing smile that you want and deserve. Orthodontics is more than just a procedure to straighten teeth, but rather a step to improving our patients’ confidence and lives. Our treatment focuses on improving facial and skeletal relationships while also planning out for future tooth development. We know that you will never settle for anything less than excellence, which is why our personalized orthodontic treatment is designed to cater to fit your unique goal and dental needs.

Teeth which are misaligned or crooked can lead to decay, periodontal disease, and other serious health concerns. Fortunately, Dr. Dmitry Karagodsky offers various forms of Orthodontics at our Philadelphia, PA, office to help reposition your teeth and correct the alignment of your jaw. With orthodontic treatment, we can gradually move your teeth into optimal alignment, so that you can enjoy a healthy, aesthetically pleasing smile.

Undergoing orthodontic treatment can help improve your appearance and prevent the need for extensive general and restorative procedures.
Orthodontics Candidates

You may benefit from orthodontic treatment if you suffer from dental issues such as:

  • Crooked, rotated teeth
  • Crowding
  • Gaps or uneven spacing between teeth
  • Overbite – upper teeth extend farther than the lower teeth
  • Underbite – lower teeth protrude past the front teeth
  • Open bite – opposing teeth are unable to make contact
  • Crossbite – teeth on either jaw do not come into contact with the middle of opposing teeth, but rest on the sides instead.
Treatment Options

Our office provides multiple forms of orthodontic treatment to meet your unique needs.

Traditional Orthodontics

Traditional orthodontics use metal brackets and wires to gradually reposition your teeth. Dr. Karagodsky generally recommends these braces in cases of severe misalignment or bite issues. Over the course of treatment, you will come into our office for periodic adjustments. Each visit, we will slightly tighten the metal wire to gradually straighten your teeth. Traditional orthodontic treatment timelines vary. However, because metal braces are often used to treat severe misalignment or bite issues, the treatment length is usually longer. Total treatment can take anywhere from six months up to three years.

Clear Braces

For patients with mild to moderate misalignment, or who dislike the appearance of metal braces, Dr. Karagodsky may recommend clear braces. Our office provides both ClearCorrect and Invisalign® to help patients receive subtle yet effective orthodontic treatment. These options use clear aligners to gradually straighten your teeth. The aligners are nearly invisible, so you can feel comfortable wearing them, and they are also removable, so you can enjoy the foods you love. The typical treatment length for patients who choose this option is nine to 18 months. During your initial consultation, Dr. Karagodsky will discuss in further detail whether this is the best corrective treatment for your misaligned teeth.

Why Orthodontic Treatment Is Important

A misaligned bite can cause damage to the teeth and jaw joints. Orthodontic treatment can help reduce the risks for these issues by gradually moving the jaws into proper alignment. Undergoing orthodontic treatment can help to improve your appearance, and prevent the need for more extensive General and Restorative Procedures in the future.

In addition, overcrowded, crooked teeth can make it difficult to remove all bacteria and plaque, which cause cavities and gum disease. By correcting misalignment, we can reduce your risk of tooth decay and bacteria which can lead to gum disease. These conditions have also been connected with heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, so there are benefits to your overall health. Once your treatment is complete, you can enjoy a straighter, more aesthetically pleasing smile which you can feel confident about.
